WAYK Arabic 3 - Want Have Give Take

This time, we actually play a couple rounds, and talk about Want/Have/Give/Take.

You can play along a little here, but really you gotta lead your own game. See http://www.whereareyourkeys.org for more.

I'm really curious. How is playing the game impacting your fluency in arabic? Can you talk about your experience a little bit?

Short answer: I was stalled, but now I'm not.

I have been avoiding learning Arabic for 3 decades. WAYK game me a sense that I *could* learn Arabic at last, so I went language hunting. Just by giving me confidence, WAYK has had a huge impact.

What I haven't done is play WAYK Arabic on a regular basis, because I'm missing two things: someone to play with, and a fluent fool to extract a bite-sized piece from, when I'm ready.

Watching Dustin & Justin's videos has pointed me in the direction of playing over Skype. I'm going to play with my brother and cousins over Skype, as they know even less Arabic than I do, so I can use WAYK to teach them. I'm no longer stalled, thanks to that.

Listening to your podcasts has shown me that there's a lot of WAYK that I don't get yet. Just the small piece I know is pretty great stuff, but as I learn more WAYK I can see that I will be able to teach and learn languages even faster. This is what you were saying about why you wanted to come to Port Townsend, so now I get it.

The folks who came to last night's WAYK sign game have said they want to do it again, which is great news. I think I can pull in more bits of sign from aslpro.com and others, to keep feeding this group as we get more advanced, so we won't stall in quite the same way. That will give me a chance to continue learning how to lead WAYK well.

I love this answer! Do you mind if I cut and paste it into the WAYK blog? I think it will illuminate for others the path you've taken with WAYK, and help them along their journey learning the game.

Yes, we do have several techniques for improving your play of the game that could help you (like skype) even in your current situation. So please contact us in advance of a trip to Portland that we can make sure we have a day to sit down with your and your family and work on the game together.
